About Us

Kia Ora

Hello from New Zealand

We are a team of developers, tech experts, businesspeople, mums and dads who love the world wide web but want to create safer online spaces. We hope you will join us in keeping families and individuals safe online.

We built Safe Surfer to protect our tamariki (kids), but our innovative technology can help people of all ages have a positive experience online. From managing screen time and access to certain types of content, our customisable platform is a tool that can benefit the whole family. Because harmful content affects millions of people globally every day (that is, people of all ages).

Our mission is to provide more than just a safety net. We don’t just block unsafe content; we facilitate meaningful learning conversations between parents/caregivers/teachers and young people. Education helps keep kids safe online even where Safe Surfer might not be set up (e.g., when visiting friends or grandparents).

Safe Surfer is about building trust, not fear. We want to help people become informed digital citizens and get the best from their online experiences.

We have provided filtering for hundreds of thousands of devices in more than 120 countries across the world since we launched in 2016. And in 2018, we won the Technology Innovator of the Year at the New Zealand Charities Technology Awards.

We hope you will join us in keeping families and individuals safe online.
